We are NYCAFLT/UFT (THE NEW YORK CITY ASSOCIATION FOR LANGUAGE TEACHERS), one of the Professional Committees of the UFT, dedicated to assisting the World Language Teachers of New York City by providing professional development workshops emphasizing best practices and the latest developments in the field of multiple language teaching. We are also a constituent member of NYSAFLT (THE NEW YORK STATE ASSOCIATION FOR LANGUAGE TEACHERS), founded in 1917 to serve the needs of a profession dedicated to the development of multiple language skills and cultural awareness among students. NYC-LI (New York City-Long Island) is one of the five NYSAFLT Regions. One member of the NYCAFLT committee represents us at the state level. Our representative keeps us informed of the many activities and benefits that NYSAFLT offers us as well as the latest happenings at the state level, which affects WORLD LANGUAGES. NYSAFLT-NYCAFLT/UFT consists of retired, veteran and new WORLD LANGUAGE TEACHERS. We meet five Saturdays a year to share our strengths and challenges in the profession. At these meetings we plan our two trademark professional development conferences in the spring and in the fall. The full-day fall Annual Professional Development Conference attracts more than 300 World Language Educators from New York City and the surrounding areas. The spring half-day Professional Development Workshops attendance averages 125. The variety of workshops presented at both Conferences is a veritable showcase of best practices in World Language Education.
